Leicester's
Micky Adams has criticised two football unions for a lack
of support over the La Manga affair.
Micky
has come out and had a pop at both the Professional Footballers'
Association (PFA) and the League Managers' Association (LMA).
Adams
does not think they did enough to help Leicester get three
of their players bailed from a Spanish jail.
Adams
said:
"Both
the LMA and the PFA should have been more helpful. That's
all I'm going to say."
Both
unions weren't too impressed.
"We
went to see the players last Tuesday and Micky made it clear
that he was disappointed with us," said PFA deputy chief
executive Mick McGuire.
"But
I don't think he is in full possession of the facts. We have
been in constant contact with Leicester's chief executive
Tim Davies, the lawyers, the players - and even one of the
players' wives.
"We
have been assessing the situation constantly but, for example,
last week there was no point in us going over to Spain when
the players were in jail."
It
will be interesting to see whether the PFA help the City players
with legal costs. In the past they have funded Royle in his
case against Man City, and Blackburn's Garry Flitcroft...despite
their huge earnings.
The association backed Blackburn captain Garry Flitcroft the
year before last in a notorious case that made national headlines.
The
married millionaire, father of a young daughter, was ultimately
unsuccessful in his legal attempt to gag the press after a
Sunday tabloid uncovered his secret relationships with a lap
dancer and nursery nurse.
The PFA agreed to stump up half his legal costs that were
estimated to total more than £100,000.
LMA
chief executive John Barnwell said:
"I
think Micky has handled an extremely difficult situation brilliantly
but I am surprised at his comments.
"I
say that because he has on hand Dave Bassett (Leicester's
director of football), who is a senior member of the LMA,
to help him."
