Leicester
East MP Keith Vaz has offered to put up bail and act as guarantor
for the three players still in jail.
Britain's
ambassador to Spain, Stephen Wright, is also working hard
to get the players released on bail, after the initial visit
of junior diplomat, George Outhwaite, vice-consul in Alicante,
who was initially sent to Cartagena to meet with the players.
Mr
Vaz, who was meeting Foreign Secretary Jack Straw with Leicester
City's chief executive, Tim Davies, said the foreign office
was doing all it can.
He
said: "Spain is a friendly country and a democracy and
our aim is to make sure the players come back as soon as possible.
"I
know the British ambassador, based in Madrid, Stephen Wright
is personally involved now, and I hope Jack Straw gives us
an assurance that the Government is doing all it can to help
the players.
"We
are going to try to clarify the situation. At the moment,
there is a lot of speculation and we want facts."
"I
am quite confident that those players will return to Spain
if asked to for the trial, as they are internationally known
people," he said
"What
we want to avoid at all cost is them remaining in custody
for a period of time until any trial is concluded."
