The
players have spent all weekend at the Sangonera prison, near
Murcia.
It
is reported that they spent the beginning of their time getting
used to prison in "The Fridge", a holding unit,
but have now been transferred to the sex offenders area.
The
Spanish jail was built to house 350 but now 700 are packed
into its stinking cells. Three men share a 12ft by 6ft cell,
and the food is a diet of lentils, stew and rice.
Conditions
don't appear to be too dreadful, with players allowed £40
per week, calls home, tv and radio if bought and even conjugal
visits for married men. And there's a footy pitch.
On
the down side though, apparently there is a shower unit there
which is dubbed The Tigers Tunnel Of Death.
The showers are communal and you apparently have to watch
your back, especially if you are accused of sex offence. The
players have been given special protection according to the
Guardian.
