As
the nightmare continues and three of the players are thrown
in clink for the weekend, what facts do we know?
Firstly,
three of the players - Keith Gillespie, Paul Dickov and Frank
Sinclair - have been remanded in custody by an investigating
judge, Pilar Perez Martin.
They
will go before a more senior judge on Monday. If they're innocent
they cold be on the next flight home. If they are charged
and brought to trial they could be held in a Spanish jail...and
the trial could take anything up to year or 18 months!
They
appear to have been accused with sexual aggression, which
could be rape or attempted rape. This carries a jail sentence
of between one and twelve years in Spain.
Three
others - Matt Elliott, Lilian Nalis and James Scowcroft -
have been released.
Scowcroft has been ordered to pay 20,000 euros bail (£13,422)
and to attend a Spanish consulate twice a month.
Two
other players, Nikos Dabizas and Danny Coyne, were "provisionally
released" following a hearing yesterday and were driven
away in the back of an estate car, hiding beneath coats from
the media scrum gathered outside the court.
A
ninth player, Steffen Freund, who had also been arrested in
relation to the allegations, had earlier been released from
the court without charge.
So
what do we know happened?
It
appears that Staff at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, where the incident
is alleged to have taken place, told police that the players
had been arguing among themselves and with other guests.
They
are then alleged to have forced their way into the room of
3 women. Originally named as German, where they were flying
to, it appears that they were of African descent, 2 from Malawi
and one from Kenya.
The
women claim that they have a bracelet from one of the players
that was snatched at the time of the assault.
It
appears that the girld didn't report the alleged attack until
2 days later. They produced the bracelet and blood stained
underwear for the police, and a hopital looked at their injuries.
The
players protest their innocence and say they did nothing wrong.
Tim
Davies says everyone is "shocked", Micky is said
to be "devastated" and Paul Mace says the club will
try and get the lads home as quickly as possible. The club
is backing the players.
So
what else are people saying?
Rumours
are circulating in Leicester that the players had gone to
get the bracelet back, which the women had stolen in the bar
earlier.
The
Sun has a classic claim from the family in the next room that
they heard the players breaking in and the girls screaming
etc. So we can presume they'll all be arrested for failing
to help the vitims too will they? Never believe anything you
read in the press kids.
And
spare a thought for the likes of MA, Macey and Tim Davies
who probably aint sleeping and eating and having to sort this
mess out. Chin up lads, Foxes Never Quit.
