Dave
Bassett was on form this week answering questions at the Foxes
Trust AGM.
The
first question was what the heck did he actually do, and off
he went for the next half hour!
So
what does he do? He works closely with MA, talking tactics
and about players performances, he organises away trips like
pre-season friendlies and breaks (the lads may be going to
La Manga after the Wolves game), he acts as a buffer between
MA and the Board, and also gives an impartial view to the
board about how much they should spend on a player MA wants,
he does all the contracts and wages negotiations and deals
with players and agents, he scouts, he keeps his eye on the
youth team and works with John Rudkin, he sometimes coaches
the kids, he goes and nicks good ideas from other clubs, he
attends meetings for the club ie disciplinaries and he wheels
and deals. It was Bassett that held out over Matty Piper and
got an extra 750k out of Sunderland once Saints came in.
So
now you know!
Harry
talked about all sorts of things such as how often we look
at a player before signing him, what may happen if we get
relegated, what's going on with the defence at the moment
("Fawlty Towers" as Harry called them) and why there
are so many injuries.
Bassett
was asked if it was as stressful as being a manager. He said
no. Cos when you lose 5-0 to Villa he doesn't have to face
the cameras to explain!
Harry
was asked about agents and fees. He says he often leaves them
sitting in the room fo half an hour whilst he pretends to
go see Tim Davies, even if Tim's not there. Harry has a cuppa
and reads the paper and then goes back in and tells them Tim
won't agree to that much!
Talking
about the flack we got about administration Harry got a cheer
from the audience when he told them that Neil Warnock had
called to try and take a player on loan and we told him to
stick it.
