City
legend, Len Glover, has been accused of being involved in
drug dealing, according to a report in he Leicester Mercury.
The
Mercury says that Lenny Glover was part of a "criminal
gang involved in a massive drugs racket", and that the
1970s footballing legend "allegedly worked as a courier,
taking drugs money to a contact in Essex as part of an operation
involving cannabis sales worth £400,000 a week".
Leicester
Crown Court was told that the operation was masterminded by
a man called Stuart Stanger.
Glover,
of Barnes Close, Kibworth Beauchamp, is on trial with Peter
Thomas Wells (64), of Essex. Both have denied conspiracy to
supply Class B drugs, between January 2001 and May 2002.
David
Herbert, prosecuting, said:
"Glover
and Wells were involved with the money side of this operation.
"Glover
was regularly used as a courier to transport money to the
Essex area.
"On
occasions, he would meet Wells and hand this drugs money over
to him for the purchase of more drugs... or to be channelled
elsewhere, so it wouldn't be related to the proceeds of drugs
crime."
The
trial, as they say, continues...
