It
may be a while down the road yet but Micky has revealed in
an interview with the Mirror that he would love to be England
coach one day.
Here's
what he has to say on not having any money to spend, how we'll
fight to the end, why Shearer is great and what the future
may hold for him...
From
the Sunday Mirror:
MICKY
ADAMS insists he has not spent a penny in his quest to keep
Leicester in the Premiership.
Adams
signed 11 new players in the summer, but he denies claims
that he spent £500,000 in the process.
And
the Leicester boss believes keeping the Foxes up would be
a greater achievement than Chelsea winning the title after
spending £100million.
"I
haven't spent any money," said Adams. "A lot of
the deals have been done on a deferred payment basis and if
we stay up we have to pay out some money.
"When
I was first told the amount of money I was getting I said,
'No chance, we might as well all go home now.' Believe it
or not I signed my new contract before we had even discussed
what money I would be getting to strengthen the squad. It
was stupid really, wasn't it?
"It
was always going to be difficult. But money has always been
tight at clubs I've been at and I know what I have - or don't
have."
But
Adams has a habit of performing miracles and he believes the
current financial restraints in the game have enabled Leicester
to broker deals that give them a fighting chance to survive.
"As
you start doing the deals you realise there are players out
there who want to prove a point," he added. "There
are some inventive deals to be done because of the financial
problems. Wage demands have dropped and we found ourselves
in a position to say, 'Take it or leave it.'
"And
if I keep this club up it will be a bigger achievement than
Chelsea winning the title - there is no comparison."
Adams
will never lose his penchant for straight talk. "If I
think a player's useless I'll tell them," he said. "I
don't buy this rubbish that we are in the Premier League and
I can't tell them what I think of them. If I have something
to say to a player I'll hit them straight between the eyes
with it. If any player thinks he's too good for this club
I'll ask them why they are at Leicester - surely they would
be somewhere else if they were any good?"
But
Adams is not complaining about the way his players have gone
about the job so far, despite yesterday's defeat at Aston
Villa. He added: "Let's be honest, most people said we
were only here to make up the numbers anyway. We still might
go down - but if we do we will go down fighting, kicking and
screaming.
"But
the spirit in the camp is right at the moment. They know they
will have to work hard."
In
an ideal world, if Adams did have money to spend he would
most like to see Alan Shearer wearing a Leicester shirt. He
said: "He's a leader, a man's man and he commands respect.
I was at Southampton with him and you could see he was going
to be the best even back then."
So
where does Adams go from here? England perhaps? He says: "I've
never really thought about being England manager. But my first
love is coaching - of course I'd love to coach England one
day.
"It's
man-management and organisation, and I like that side of the
job."
