website cfcnet.co.uk have let us know their thoughts on tomorrow's
game...think they're right? Let us know...
Matches
against Chelsea and Leicester have traditionally been closely
fought games and for all the disparity between the clubs'
finances and playing staff, I think Saturday's encounter will
be no different.
Leicester, like us, have made a hatful of new signings but
mostly for frees and none of the calibre that Ranieri has
brought in. But as we have heard so often this summer, it's
about how you get to them to function as a team that's important
and I have no doubt that Micky Adams will have his players
well organised and highly motivated to get something out of
the game.
Trying to guess Claudio Ranieri's first XI has always been
a difficult task and now even more so since Roman Abramovich
stepped in and funded £75 million worth of player purchases.
An excited and raucous home crowd should provide an intimidating
atmosphere for Leicester and I'm sure our players, whoever
is picked, will respond positively.
I'd expect us to start with an attacking line up, with Romanian
striker Adrian Mutu likely to make his debut, possibly playing
just behind Hasselbaink and Gudjohnsen.
Leicester will no doubt sit back and play for the draw, so
I'd expect Ranieri to fill the other positions with players
who can either take defenders on (Duff and Gronkjaer) or pick
out the strikers with pinpoint passes and crosses (Veron).
With this kind of line up I can see us putting enormous pressure
on the Leicester defence, particularly down the flanks, and
I would expect us to dominate proceedings from start to finish.
Much of this will depend on how quickly the team settles and
whether they can get into a good rhythm early on.
Leicester have always been a hard working side with players
who will fight for every ball for the whole 90 minutes, making
life very difficult for the opposition. Muzzy Izzet will no
doubt be keen to impress against his former employers and
I think he is the one player we will have to be wary of giving
too much space to in midfield. The absences of Les Ferdinand
and Matt Elliott, by no means world beaters but still influential
players on their day, are an added bonus for us.
Teams have been coming to the Bridge and playing for a point
for a number of years now and we have generally struggled
to break them down. And in a team as hard working and no doubt
desperate to ruin what will almost certainly be like a party
atmosphere among the Chelsea faithful with Roman making his
first appearance before the home fans, this could still be
a tough match.
A draw would be a great result for Leicester, a disappointing
one for us, especially given our win at Anfield on Sunday.
Scoreline prediction: Chelsea 2 Leicester 0.
