.. Internet Foxes win group at Worldnet (20/07/03)

Leicester City fans were out in force this weekend to represent their club at the IFA's annual Worldnet tournament.

Internet Football comprises of football teams from all over the world. Each team is made up of fans from official football clubs, and are brought together through e-mail mailing lists (the Leicester list can be found here) representing those fans.

64 teams were up in Leeds this weekend to catch up with old friends, put old rivalries to bed (except for Pompey who couldn't resist writing "Scummers!" on the notice board under Southampton's name) and try to play football with the worst hangovers in the world.

The weekend is about making friends, having a good time and building bridges between fans. There's also some football. Leicester's team, the Internet Foxes, had a great tournament, winning their group and only going out to the eventual winners of the whole tournament, AC Celtic, through a golden goal.

Saturday - Group Stages.

Internet Foxes 2 Southampton 2

Internet Foxes 1 Rangers(B) 0

Saturday - Evening

In true Worldnet tradition the team set out for a curry and too much alcohol. A certain Internet Foxes captain had to get out of the taxi on the way back to the hotel to be violently sick after many shots of different flavoured vodkas in Revolutions, including the infamous chilli vodka. It took him 2 hours to walk again.

Another member of the team got thrown out of a nightclub he was too drunk to remember the name of but it had a revolving dancefloor in it which he fell off.

Sunday - morning

Thankfully all squad members were alive, half of them managed breakfast, and they had all stopped throwing up. Compared with the look of other teams, the Internet Foxes looked in good nick.

Sunday - knockout stage.

Internet Foxes 1 - Colchester 1

Internet Foxes 0 - Celtic 0
(went to extra time, golden goal to Celtic)

Celtic went on to win the tournament, beating Inter Milan's team 1-0. (the first time there's been an Italian team represented at Worldnet) A massive well done to AC Celtic for being the first Scottish team to win Worldnet.

Yes, this was really the best we could come up with to represent our fine club

A massive well done to all those who organised Worldnet so superbly again, and thanks to LCFC for the kits, and Sheila and Dilly in the laundry room there for washing them.

If you want to play for the Leicester team you can. It doesn't matter about age, sex, fatness or fitness. Drinking vast quantities of alcohol is also absolutely no impediment to being picked and will probably aid your assimilation into the squad. See the Internet Foxes pages for more details.
