Left
sided Spurs defender Ben Thatcher became Micky Adams' 8th
signing of the summer today...subject to a medical.
Apparently,
according to the Mercury, the fee for the 27-year-old former
England Youth and Under-21 international is nominal - and
conditional on City staying in the Premiership this season.
Some
City fans have not forgottem Thatcher turning us down in the
past... back in 1996, Martin O'Neill saw Thatcher choose Wimbledon
instead of us for £1.8m. Spurs then signed him for £5m.
Micky
said:
"I
have been interested in him for a while but it has been a
long and protracted affair in terms of putting everything
together and persuading him to move here, because he is a
southern boy.
"So
I am thankful that all parties have now reached agreement.
"Thatcher
is a tenacious defender who can play at either left-back or
on the left side in central defence. He also has good pace
and Premiership experience and I believe he will be a big
asset to our squad.
"He
is coming up today for his medical and, subject to that, will
sign a three-year contract and go with us next week on the
trip to Finland."
Adams
also added: "We are close to completing a deal for another
Premiership utility player and I am hopeful that will be finalised
in the next 24 hours."
