Micky
Adams made his first signing of the summer tonight by announcing
the Foxes had signed Steve Howey from Manchester City.
The
official site says that Howey arrived at the Walkers Stadium
today (Thursday) to agree personal terms after the Foxes had
agreed an undisclosed fee for the 31-year-old. The central
defender has signed a one-year contract which is subject to
a medical.
City
boss Micky Adams said:
"We
are delighted to be getting Steve on board.
"He
is a former international defender with proven Premiership
experience and will be a good addition to the squad."
Howey
has apparently been out of favour with Man City boss Kevin
Keegan since taking a share of the blame for City's heavy
defeat against Arsenal.
The
Man City website says,
"The
Sunderland born defender fell out of favour with boss Kevin
Keegan in March when he was named on the bench but refused
to travel with the squad to London for the Chelsea match.
"Ironically
it was the City chief, when boss at Newcastle, who turned
the player from a striker into a central defender. He subsequently
went on to make over two hundred League and Cup appearances
for the Magpies winning international honours for England."
Howey
was bought by Joe Royle in 2000/1 for £2m. He made 103 appearances
for Man City, acting as stand in skipper on several occasions
and scoring eleven goals in his three seasons.
