Micky
Adams put pen to paper this morning to sign a new 3 year deal.
The
City boss had a year to run on his contract, but has extended
it and earned himself a whopping payrise, reportedly worth
half a million a year.
Micky
said,
"I'm delighted to have signed again but you never, ever think
you've made it and I'm going to redouble my efforts to make
sure I feel as good as I do now by this time next year.
"It's
going to be a big season next season in the Premiership and
it was important we got this business out of the way as quickly
as we could and it now leaves me with the task of assembling
a squad which befits this football club and does us justice
in the Premiership."
And
contracts were flowing all over the place as it was revealed
that Tommy Wright (2 year deal) and Matt Heath (1 year deal)
have agreed new contracts, and all the backroom boys are staying,
including director of football Dave Bassett.
Leicester
City assistant manager Alan Cork, reserve team manager Peter
Shirtliff and physiotherapist David Rennie have all committed
themselves to the Walkers Stadium.
Leicester's
chief executive Tim Davies said:
"Micky
is a man who is very loyal to his staff so contract extensions
for his team was an important consideration for him.
"But
it wasn't as if a gun was being held to our heads.
"From
our point of view, Micky and his team have brought success
to this football club and the old adage about not changing
winning teams does apply.
"I've
been involved in some very important decisions during my time
with the club but I'd say none have been more important than
today.
"This
is as important a signing as it's possible for the football
club to make.
"Micky
Adams has done a truly fantastic job in securing promotion
back to the Premiership under the most difficult of circumstances.
"The
new arrangement we've reached with Micky reflects that achievement
and I believe we have the best young manager in the country,
someone who will bring greatness back to Leicester City."
Adams
himself added:
"It
was important to me the club have agreed new contracts with
my staff at the training ground, I'm pleased about that because
they're important people to me.
"Not
least of those is Dave Bassett and although I'm not prepared
to discuss the length of his contract, I'm hoping he'll be
here for the next three years."
