City's
player of the season today put pen to paper signing an extension
to his contract for another 2 years.
Paul
Dickov is the first of the lads who were offered new contracts
to publicly sign.
Speaking to the official website City boss Micky Adams said:
“Paul
Dickov resigning for the football club has given everyone
a big boost.
“I’m delighted because it shows a commitment from Paul, he
has shown confidence that we can take the football club forward
from here.
“The problem that you face is that when people are coming
towards the end of their existing contract as Paul was after
scoring 20 goals it does attract interest from other clubs
“But Paul never intimated to me that he wanted to move and
was happy to commit himself again to Leicester City.
“You can never question his enthusiasm for the game, he’s
had that throughout his career, but one thing that he’s never
had is putting goals to that enthusiasm.
“But this year luckily for Leicester City he’s put 20 goals
on the board for us.
“Once you have got a centre forward scoring goals you do not
want to lose him.
“So whilst we could not commit ourselves to any sort of deal
until we knew what division we were gong to be playing in
it was a case of speaking with him and his advisors to find
out what the ball-park figure was to sign him again.
Adams
clarified the situation with the other out of contract players
he wants to keep.
“We haven’t made any offers to other players yet, what we
have said is that we will be making offers.
“Over the next few weeks we will be sitting down with Billy
McKinlay, Gerry Taggart and Brian Deane and making them offers.
“But I am sure their agents will be touting them around at
the moment because they are Bosmans and that’s quite right.”
Adams is also in negotiations on his own personal contract,
which still has a year to run, and hopes to sign an extension
shortly.
