Leicester City manager Micky Adams spoke for our man in Finland,
Timo, after the first game of the pre-season trip to Finland.
And
he revealed that he has been extremely shocked by the financial
difficulties facing the club.
"To
be honest, when I signed for Leicester City I didn`t have
a clue I would have to face something like this. On the other
hand, nobody could see this coming. We have players earning
Premiership wages on our books, but we are playing Nationwide
football." said Adams.
"We just have to face the facts now. Even if I hate to
say it, every single player can leave the club now, if the
offer satisfies us. And that really means everybody, from
Matthew Piper to Dennis Wise.
"I
have spoken with the players about the financial situation.
Everybody is perfectly aware of the situation, but I would
be disappointed if they would pay too much attention to it
and could´not concentrate on their job. The situation is pretty
clear: the players play, the coaches coach and somebody else
makes the financial decisions", Micky added.
"Yes,
I would have like to sign a couple of players. I have got
a few ideas and in the perfect world I would like to have
a couple of new faces in before the season kicks off. But
the squad is strong enough at the moment and the players are
working hard, so I am looking forward to the season.
"There
is no point in declaring any timetable in our promotion bid
now. OK, we have a good chance of going up next season if
everything goes fine from now on. But I think every other
team in Division One has as good a chance"
Despite all the financial pressures Adams and the whole squad
looked pretty relaxed. After Thursday mornings training session
the squad chose to walk from the Väinölänniemi Stadium to
their city centre hotel in Kuopio.
