Leicester City kicked off the pre-season tour in Finland with
2-1 win against FC Kings in Kuopio. Leicester dominated the
game from beginning to the last minute, but finishing once
again let them down.
Even if the game was a friendly in every meaning of the word,
there were some good signs to be seen for the Leicester fans.
City played with a 4-3-3 formation with Paul Dickov, James
Scowcroft and Trevor Benjamin up-front. In the third minute
Benjamin should have put City in front, but he missed an easy
tap-in. (Surely not?! -Ed)
A
couple of minutes later a brilliant shot by Dickov was saved
by the Kings keeper. Then Scowcroft headed against the bar
after an inch-perfect pass by Dennis Wise. After half an hour
Dickov scored with a good header. The build-up including Scowcroft,
Jonathan Ashton and Martin Reeves was the highlight of the
game.
In
the closing minutes of the first half Scowcroft twice headed
over.
City
started the second half brilliantly. Goalkeeper Tim Flowers,
who came in for Ian Walker at half time, smacked a long clearance
upfield. Paul Dickov raced through and easily scored. Junior
Lewis, Steff Oakes and Dickov could have killed the game,
but they didnīt find the net.
Against
the run of the play the home side scored on 68. minutes, when
Petri Luhio capitalised on dreadful mistakes made by Frank
Sinclair and Matt Elliott.
Cityīs
top man was young Martin Reeves, who was industrious in midfield
in the first half and sharp as a striker after the interval.
Centre-half Gerry Taggart played the first 45 minutes and
didnīt put a foot wrong.
City:
Walker (46. Flowers) - Ashton (50. Lyth), Elliott, Taggart
(46. Sinclair), Stewart (46. Rogers) - Reeves, Wise (62. Davidson),
Lewis - Scowcroft (46. Oakes), Dickov, Benjamin.
