City
boss Micky Adams wants to bring one of his favourite players
to Filbert Way...but has to wait until he sells some more
players.
Albion's
star defender Danny Cullip would probably cost City about
£500,000, but the move is on hold until Adams reduces the
Foxes' wage bill.
The
Brighton Argus spoke to Albion today and the club admitted
that they are aware of interest in Cullip, and that he has
not yet accepted a revised contract offer. Cullip has been
on the transfer list at his own request since November.
Adams first bought Cullip from Brentford in October 1999 for
£50,000. Adams also signed Cullip when he was in charge at
Fulham and Brighton.
Supporters
named him player-of-the-season in 1999-2000 as Albion lifted
the Third Division crown. Cullip was outstanding again last
season, when the Seagulls claimed consecutive championships.
Former
boss Peter Taylor handed him the captaincy and he was included
in the Professional Footballers' Association's Division Two
team of the year.
Chief executive Martin Perry said today:
"The
situation is as it has always been. Danny asked to go on the
transfer list, so he is transfer listed.
"There
is a revised deal for Danny on the table. It hasn't been accepted
yet, but the club's position is that we respect him enormously
as a great player who has done us a great service and we would
like to keep him. We have not had a direct approach for him
from any other club, but we are aware that there is interest
in him."
Speaking on the official LCFC
site today, Micky Adams said,
""I've
spoken to the chairman and if Muzzy is sold I'd like to think
I can bring one or two additions into the football club.
"I've got people I'd like to bring in but at the moment my
hands are tied."
