City have today been linked with experienced Ipswich midfielder
Jim Magilton.
The
33-year-old Northern Ireland international has been told he
could leave on a free transfer. City boss Adams' ears pricked
up at the words "free" transfer. (Hey, Junichi
Inamoto's on a free too! get in there Micky- Ed)
Adams is looking for an experienced midfielder on a 2 year
contract as a replacement for Muzzy Izzet who is bound to
leave City upon his return from Japan whether it be to Boro
or Celtic.
Magilton
only played 15 games last season and did not feature in the
last eight games. Ipswich boss George Burley told him he did
not feature in his future plans and agreed to let Magilton
go on a free despite him having a year left on his contract.
The
only goal Jim scored last season was a penalty against, yes
you know, Leicester.
Here's
what the Ipswich site says about him...
Jim
was an apprentice at Liverpool before getting his break in
League football at Oxford, joining them in a £100,000 move
in October 1990. Made 150 League appearances for them before
joining Southampton in a £600,000 deal in February 1994. Three
years and 130 League games later, Sheffield Wednesday parted
company with £1.6 million to land the midfield playmaker.
The
move never worked out for the popular Irishman and he arrived
at Portman Road on loan before signing permanently in March
99 for an initial fee of £682,500. Enjoyed his best game in
a Town shirt in the Play-Off Semi-Final second-leg victory
over Bolton in May 2000, grabbing the first hat-trick of his
League career in a 5-3 win, and still had time to miss a penalty.
A skipper of Northern Ireland's national team, he is close
to making 50 appearances for his country.
