Robbie Savage is to sign for Birmingham City in a deal believed
to be worth £2.5m.The
transfer is subject to the player passing a medical.
Savage
agreed personal terms with the newly promoted midlands outfit
and will put pen to paper on a three-year deal tomorrow. The
Welsh international met Blues boss Steve Bruce yesterday,
and the player jumped at the chance to continue playing Premiership
football.
Rumours
were rife of an exit for Savage, who will be the first star
player to leave City after their relegation to Division One.
Micky
Adams told teamtalk.com,
"I'll
be very disappointed to see him go because he is a good player.
But our financial situation is well known and there is little
I can do about it".
The
price may come as a surprise to City fans as rumours of bids
from the likes of Everton were more in the region of £5m.
However, Adams explained to teamtalk.com the pressure he is
under financially.
He
said,
"It
has been made clear that we have to cut costs and reduce the
wage bill now that we have been relegated".
The
deal does represent a profit of almost £2m on Savage, a £400,000
signing from Crewe who will receive approximately £175,000
as part of a sell-on clause.
