The Old Firm have apparently held secret talks about joining
the Nationwide League - and the move south may happen as early
as next season.
With
the other 10 clubs in the Scottish Premier League saying they're
off to form their own league without them, it has speeded
up Celtic and Rangers drive to get into the English leagues.
The
collapse of the ITV deal has also meant that the Football
League are more than a little enthusiastic to get the two
Old Firm teams down here asap to attract more money into the
game.
According
to reports, Dermot Desmond, the wealthy financier who is a
major shareholder in Celtic, held two hours of talks in London
on Thursday with Keith Harris, the Football League chairman
who is keen on Celtic and Rangers moving south.
Could
City be playing Celtic and Rangers in the league next season?
One of the obstacles will be UEFA, who are worried that the
move may open the door for other cross-border switches, thus
harming the reputation of international football.
