Details are still being finalised for the trip to Finland
for pre-season games.
If
however City are to play in the tournament that Hearts are
playing in, it means that the 18th July will see them at the
Kupittaa Stadium in Turku. (2 hours west of Helsinki)
News
from Finland suggests otherwise though! Timo has e-mailed
us saying that City will definitely not play in Turku. He
tells us that the first game in Finland will be played in
Kuopio (versus FC Kings) on Thursday the 18th of July and
the second in Jyväskylä (versus JJK Jyväskylä) on Sunday the
21st of July. Both cities are situated in central parts of
Finland.
Timo
goes on to say that Leicester City have some kind of link-up
with JJK Jyväskylä. Three or four young players from JJK trained
and played for the Leicester City Youth Academy teams earlier
this season. One of them, a 15-year old striker called Tomi
Petrescu, even signed a five-year contract with LCFC. Petrescu
is on of the most promising youngsters in Finland and plays
regularly for the Finnish U16 and U17 international teams.
He has come up with 2 goals for the U-17s since signing for
us.
Apparently
Academy director Alan Hill and head of recruitment Mick Raynor
visited the club and the city of Jyväskylä some time ago -
they checked out the training facilities, stadium, hotel etc.
that City will use during the pre-season trip.
Many
thanks to Timo for the information!
Flights
to Helsinki start at about £130 return including tax
on Scandanavian Airways or BA. Check out www.cheapflights.co.uk
for various deals.
The
final details are being organised by Dave Bassett (oh,
so that's what a Director of football does - Ed)
and we should have confirmed dates and venues pretty soon.
FFS
will be hopefully bringing you reports from all the summer's
pre-season games. If anyone else is going along to any of
the games, especially Finland, drop us a line here!
Timo says
"
I have made 29 trips to Leicester. So I expect you lot to
visit Jyväskylä at least once!"
