Leicester City have issued a statement condemning reports
in the Daily Mirror yesterday that there is a booze culture
at City.
The
main story focussed ion Matt Elliott, reporting that he did
not miss Saturday's game at Everton due to a slight knock
in training, but because micky Adams had decided not to play
him.
*Alledgedly*
Matty had turned up to training smelling of booze.Players
are currently banned from drinking 48 hours before a game
and the night before training.
So
Micky apparently fined him and sent him home.
The Club though have claimed that the story is 'complete nonsense'
and "they do not wish to afford any credence to the article
by making any formal comment on the tabloid story". A
further statement on the club's official website reads:
"All
players are fully aware of their professional responsibilities
and the need for the highest possible standards of fitness.
"Management and players will be closing ranks and concentrating
solely and exclusively on collecting a Premiership victory
against Aston Villa at Filbert Street on Saturday."
The
report even suggested that new boss Micky Adams was going
to bring in a breathalyser to training in future!
So,
is there any truth in this? There's usually smoke if not fire
in tabloid's crappy stories. And we all know what some of
the London lads are like. Although we don't here so many stories
about drunken City players from taxi drivers now Lenny has
moved to Celtic, some of the London lads are reknowned for
getting booze down their necks in various Leiceser pubs after
the games.
But
Matty? Family man? At training? All seems very odd.
