Micky
Adams has predicted a very bright future for 17-year-old academy
star Tommy Wright. The City assistant also hinted that Wright
could get an extended run in the first team if indeed Adams
takes over as City boss this summer.
Adams
said of Wright, "I'm excited about him because there is definitely
more to come. Certainly next season I can see him playing
a much bigger part if he keeps getting stronger".
Wright
has broken scoring records in City's academy side, scoring
14 goals in as many games. It says a lot of the young City
star when he progresses from the Under-17 Academy team to
first-team football with just one reserve team fixture under
his belt.
"I
have been very impressed with what I have seen of Tommy. He's
a strong physical striker and not afraid of physical combat.
He's also a great finisher and there aren't that many of them
at the club at the moment", Adams told teamtalk.
Adams'
praise comes at similar time to Academy Director Alan Hill's
comments about the products of Leicester's youth system. Hill
said, "Youth Academies such as the one at Leeds United have
paid off, and I can see the same happening at this football
club. I look at Wright and Jon Ashton and I can see signs
of Alan Smith and Jonathan Woodgate without doubt".
The
likes of Matt Piper, Jordan Stewart, Martin Reeves, Jon Stevenson,
Michael Price and Matt Heath have all made huge strides this
season towards first-team football, which all bodes well for
the future of the club.
