Ian
Walker has expressed his concern that Leicester's disastrous
Premiership campaign could cost him a place at this summer's
World Cup finals.
Walker
has been one of Leicester's most consistent performers since
signing from Tottenham last summer, but the City stopper feels
that Leicester's position 11 points adrift of safety, and
somewhat glued to the bottom spot, could go against him when
Sven Goran Eriksson picks his final squad.
Walker
has been used as a late replacement in the games against Albania
and Greece, and made the squad for the friendly against Sweden,
but has so far failed to impress enough to warrant a place
in the starting line-up.
City's
defence has been leaking goals all season, and although Walker
has pulled off some good saves, with 46 goals in the 'goals
against column', it would be hard to dislodge the likes of
David James, Richard Wright, David Seaman and Nigel Martyn,
who are most definitely ahead in Eriksson's plans.
(There
is of course the alternative theory that before joining Leicester,
Walker didn't have a cat in hell's chance of being called
up any more, and as he's been so busy thanks to City's poor
form, that has given him a chance to shine. Maybe he should
be damn grateful instead of moaning? - Ed)
