Steve McClaren has not given up in his attempt to sign City's
influential, creative midfielder, Muzzy Izzet.
The
former Manchester United assistant has said that he would
like to keep in touch with Muzzy in the hope that the player
may change his mind if Leicester are relegated.
Muzzy
turned down a move to the Riverside Stadium saying that the
move "wasn't quite right".
However,
McClaren does not want to completely abandon the proposed
£6m transfer, particularly after Izzet said that he must be
playing Premiership football next season. If, come the summer,
nobody else came in with an offer, Izzet would have little
option but to accept if the Turkish International wanted to
stay in the Premier League.
Celtic
and Derby are likely to take an interest in Izzet during the
summer. John Gregory would be most interested in signing the
player if money became available, and of course if they avoid
the drop.
Whoever
the potential buyer, Bassett is resigned to losing the club's
prized asset.
