Leicester City have failed in their attempt to sign Elie Koupri
of French club Lorient.
City
had hoped to sign the Ivory Coast forward on loan until the
end of the season, but the move was thwarted by Lorient's
President, Andre Jezougo, who said that the striker is not
for sale.
Jezougo said:
"I
am aware that his agent is very active at the moment to find
Kroupi a new club as he has complained he was not playing
enough.
"But
it is absolutely out of the question to let him go now because
we would not have the opportunity to find a replacement."
Jezougo confirmed Lorient would be willing to listen to offers
for Kroupi in the summer but insisted Leicester had missed
out for this season.
"Leicester have made an interesting offer for Kroupi, and
if this offer had come during the transfer market maybe we
would have given our go-ahead.
"But that's not the case and Kroupi will remain at the club
until the end of the season."
The
French transfer window closed on January 31st and selling
Koupri would leave the French club short of forwards and no
chance of finding a replacement.
