Leicester
City today announced the appointment of a new non-executive
director...a woman at last!
No
jokes about the offside rule please. It's about time, seeing
as City has more female members than any other club in the
Premier League.
Brigid
Simmonds has been a City fans all her life and worked in central
Governemnt, as well as holding lots of jazzy titles and posts
in sport. All the details about City's newest director is
on the official
site.
The
news comes at the same time that Sir Rodney Walker announced
that he is to stand down as Chairman of the PLC in August.
Sir Rodney said on the official site: “I have made the difficult
decision to stand down as Chairman and non-executive director
in order to concentrate on my other business commitments and
responsibilities and in particular the new Wembley National
Stadium."
Current director Greg Clarke will become the non-executive
Chairman of Leicester City Plc. John Elsom will remain Chairman
of the Football Club.
Greg
Clarke, 44, has been a non-executive director of Leicester
City Plc since December 1999. Mr Clarke is currently Chief
Executive of ICO-Teledisc, a global telecommunications operator,
is also a member of the board of BUPA Ltd and Chairman of
Eteach Ltd. He was formerly Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless
Communications Plc.
