Damien
Delaney feels that his recent loan spell at Stockport County
has served him well, but now wants to concentrate on his Leicester
career.
Delaney made 12 appearances whilst on loan at Edgeley Park,
and feels that the experience of first team football and some
much needed fitness work under Carlton Palmer could be the
catalyst for change in his attempt to gain a regular first
team spot.
The
Republic of Ireland under-21 international told the Leicester
City World,
"I
really enjoyed my time at Stockport and I feel that I have
gained a lot of experience in my three months there.
"When
I came over to England I only had the experience of amateur
football with Cork City and it was a big step for me. So when
I was offered the chance of first team football in the First
Division it was too good to turn down. My fitness was not
at its peak when the new manager came in and I have been working
hard during my time away to regain that".
The
decision to loan out both Damien Delaney and Matthew Piper
seems to have paid off for Bassett as both have returned fresh
and altogether better players.
City
now have the comfort of, when fit, four good players challenging
for the two left hand side positions. All can play fullback,
wingback, or left midfield. Davidson, Rodgers, Stewart and
Delaney will all be vying for places in the first team.
