City
have announced that if he passes a medical then Jacob Laursen
will be their new signing on Tuesday for an undisclosed amount.
What
do people have to say about Jacob then?
Born
in 1971 in Denmark, the Danish international developed into
Derby's Mr Reliable after his 1996 move from Denmark's Silkeborg.
Apparently
Laursen was a fine reader of the game, good in the air and
a world-class man-marker. He was also calm and composed and
had the captain's armband for a while.
On
the downside his distribution was sometimes woeful and he
could sometimes look slow.
Laursen
was an established international defender, with 26 caps, and
he played in the France 98 encounter with the hosts. He was
originally a clerk, only making the transition to professional
football comparatively late in life.
Laursen
was voted "Player of the Year" by Derby supporters.
He
left Derby last year, when ambitious Copenhagen managed to
attract him home from Derby for a fee around £500k. The strong
defender, recently divorced, admits that he had a desire to
move back home to see his children more. (He's obviously fed
up of them again already...)
He
should sign in time to be able to play against the Happy Hammers
on Saturday at Upton Park.
