City
manager Dave Bassett was disappointed with the result and
saw it as 2 points lost this afternoon in their 1-1 draw with
the Happy Hammers.
Bassett
also doesn't seem too happy with Matt Elliott.
Speaking
on the official site after the game Bassett said:
""What
happened this afternoon just goes to show that one moment
can change a game.
"To
be honest I was standing there on the touchline not too concerned
that West Ham would score.
"I
couldn't see them scoring today, Walker had one half-shot
to save and I thought we were in control of the game.
"I
was looking for us to go and get a second goal but things
can change very quickly.
"Matt
Elliott's not shown enough restraint, he's got sent off, Di
Canio's penalty has gone in and suddenly we are hanging on
for a point with 10 men."
Bassett
said on Elliott:
"I
cannot defend the indefensible and Matt will be fined two
weeks wages.
"There
was no excuse for his actions and in effect it cost us the
game. It's not a case of sympathising with Matt because he
should still not have done what he did.
"Matt
admitted to his part in the incident with Trevor Sinclair
and if you do those kind of things the only result is that
you will be sent off.
"Matt
has apologised to me in my office, he was emotionally wound
up at the time and didn't show the kind of restraint needed
in those situations.
"Matt's
behaviour was nonsense because it has put him out of the reckoning
for three games and cost him two weeks wages. It doesn't help
him and it doesn't help the team and I'm sure he'll be feeling
rough over the weekend."
