City
chairman John Elsom has attended a press conference aimed
at answer any questions that had arisen from the sacking of
Peter Taylor.
Elsom
told waiting reporters, "It is a decision we have taken
with a great deal of regret.
"In
our first season after the departure of Martin O'Neill we
finished a very creditable 13th position.
"However,
after our opening eight games of this season we find ourselves
with only five points and bottom of the table.
"This
is possibly the single most important season in the club's
history with us due to move into our new stadium in August
2002.
"This
decision has been taken to maximise our ability to safeguard
our Premiership future.
"I
and everyone at the club would like to place on record our
sincere thanks to Peter and his staff for all their efforts
over the past 16 months.
"We do not have any pre-conceived ideas about the identity
of our next manager at this moment.
"We
shall invite applications and take the matter from there.
It is vitally important that we get the right man for the
job."
City
are hoping that any new manager would be installed by October
9th when they play Leeds United in the Worthington Cup third.
