So
what did the gaffer have to say after a stunning 0-0 stalemate?
"I
thought our performance for 90 minutes today was very decent.
(you have a strange definition of decent then! - Ed)
"The
pressure was on us at half-time because Fulham are a good
passing team and there are times in a game against them that
you are not going to touch the ball.
"I thought that happened just before half-time so I thought
our efforts in the second-half were terrific.
"If
we failed at all in the first-half I felt it was because the
players tried too hard and gave the ball away too cheaply.
"But
in the second period we played it easy and early and played
the way we were facing and certainly opened them up more.
"We
didn't have any really clear cut chances but we created chances,
a couple of headers, and if one had gone in it would have
resulted in a home win.
"I
know that if we continue performing as we did in the second-half
we are going to be OK.
"At
half-time I told the players not to try and win the game on
their own and that 11 of them would win the game if they played
as a team.
"At
times when we were defending against a very good passing team
someone would try to play the hardest ball on the park, hit
it straight to their centre-half and we would have to defend
again.
"So
in the second-half we started playing the percentage passes
once we had the ball and that resulted in us asking more questions
of Fulham after the break."
Well,
does Einstein know what he's talking about? Shouldn't some
of the above basics be obvious to a team of professionals?
