:City
were seemingly cruising to victory after a goal in the 10th
minute by Welsh international Matthew Jones had put them in
front. Unfortunately 'Boro had other ideas and two goals in
the last five minutes have put the pressure back on Peter
Taylor.
Paul Ince and Jonathon Greening were the ones to get the Teesiders
off the bottom of the table and help ease the pressure off
of their own underfire gaffer, Steve McClaren.
It could have all been so different though as Jones gave City
a dream start when he capitalised on an early error by 'Boro
keeper Mark Schwarzer to put the Foxes ahead. The Australian
'keeper was unable to hold onto a 35-yard shot from defender
Callum Davidson and Jones was the first to react to give Taylors
side the one goal advantage that they desperately needed.
And that is how the game stayed for most of the night with
City playing far better football than they had been over the
last few months. There was a real passion about the side,
especially in the first half when City were chasing everything
and winning most of the 50/50 balls.
Unfortunately
Matt Jones, who got the goal and was arguably one of City's
best players, had to come off at half time after sustaining
a blow to the head earlier in the game. That is where it all
seemed to go wrong.
City
still managed to hang on until the last few minutes of the
game when Carlos Marinelli, a second half substitute, sent
in a deep cross which was flicked on by Brian Deane and Ince
was there to tuck the ball past Ian Walker for the equaliser
with just 5 minutes to go.
That was bad enough but then the unthinkable happened. But
then Deane got on the end of a long clearance by Schwarzer
and turned the ball into the path of Greening, who made no
mistake to secure Boro's second consecutive win.
It
was certainly a horror show for City at the end and especially
demoralising as all of their hard work seemed to have counted
for nothing. It also puts the pressure back on Peter Taylor
who was hoping that another win today may have moved him one
step further up the ladder to job safety. This now doesn't
seem to be the case and you can be sure that the Taylor out
chants will start again very soon.
