So
Savage is once more the Antichrist according to today's media.
The London loving press yet again single Sav out for blame
and abuse, without stopping to look fairly at the evidence.
It's Savage...guilty m'lud.
Let's
change his squad number from 8 to 666 shall we?
Robbie
Savage, the accused. Charges: Diving in the penalty box, upsetting
Derby fans and players, Being a cheat, causing a full scale
punch up in the tunnel.
Fact:
After a shocking challenge on him by Seth Johnson after only
12 minutes, which some refs would have considered a sending
off offence, Sav pointed a finger at Seth as he got straight
back up. Sav was booked for this.
Fact:
Sav spent the game geeing up the City fans. Not once did we
see him taunt any Derby fans or players. He had better things
to do.
Fact:
TV replays clearly show Sav tried to stay on his feet for
2 tackles and was clipped on the third attempt. No way could
he have stayed upright. TV pundits agree it was a penalty.
Sav got straight back up.
Fact:
Sav did not run towards any Leicester fans to celebrate winning
the penalty. They were situated at the other end of the stadium.
TV again shows clearly he jumped up and down on the spot just
pleased we'd got a chance to get the game back after we were
robbed earlier with a penalty that never was for the Sheep
Fact:
Burley and Ravenelli both attacked Savage off the field and
had to be pulled off him as he tried to get away. Any other
time both would have been red carded but Barber decided common
sense would prevail and only yellow carded them.
Fact:
At the end of the game Sav celebrated with the Leicester fans.
Anyone who has watched Leicester over the last 14 away games
would completely understand why the Leicester players and
fans jumped about in front of each other as they did. Sav
was not the only player to run over to us, yet he was singled
out as inciting Derby fans.
Fact:
As it was obvious that there was a fracas going on inside
the tunnel Sav got the furthest from it, out onto the pitch.
He actually stood in disbelief as stewards pushed and shoved
Jordan Stewart and Matt Jones and refused to let any of the
5 Leicester players (Sav, Jones, Stewart, Sinclair and Walker)
still outside the tunnel to the dressing room.
For
Derby to come out an accuse Sav of cheating when they tried
to break his legs in the first 15 minutes is pretty bloody
hypocritical to say the least. And should the FA not investigate
allegations that Burley was waiting for Sav in the tunnel
after the game, and the abuse and manhandling dished out by
the stewards when it is their job to keep the peace?
Here's
what people have got to say about our Sav...
Robbie
Savage should face an FA charge of trying to incite the crowd
after his outrageous antics at Pride Park... it was his attitude,
his clear, deliberate attempt to not only play-act but also
rile opposition players and their fans which has to be dealt
with as the most serious of matters at the FA.
(Alex Montgomery - Soccernet)
I
thought the referee might have known that when Mr. Savage
goes in the box he might take a little dive, and that's what
he did.
(Jim Smith, Derby Manager)
Shame
on you Savage.
(Geoff Sweet, News of the World)
I'm
not a cheat.
(Sav!)
Is
Sav a dirty cheating git who incites violence? Or a passionate
Fox who is hard done to? Tell us what you think about this
