After
the match Peter Taylor was quick to point out that City had
won and that was all that mattered, in his opinion, by saying,
"Any win is a good win at the minute because our confidence
has been a bit low - so I'm delighted with the goal and the
win. We worked very hard on Saturday so we know we're improving.
We weren't good enough in the first two games - there is still
a lot to do and improve on.
"I
spoke to John Elsom last night and it's not a case of game
by game. I know they're going to give me time to get it right
- and I know I will do. We've got a hard game at Derby on
Saturday. It's all about the league now because we don't like
being in the position we're in.
"If
someone had asked me if I would have accepted a very poor
performance and got a 1-0 result, I would have taken it.
"We
are very pleased to get a win against an excellent Blackpool
side."
Taylor
also revealed that some of his players had gone and spoken
to John Elsom to try and defend Taylor, "It's very nice
for the experienced players to go and see the chairman,"
admitted Taylor. "There's been a few reports saying they
were not with me, but I didn't believe that.
"I'd
heard a rumour that they were going to do it. I thought they
were thinking about doing it on Saturday, but that never materialised."
City
chief John Elsom again reiterated that Taylor is not about
to be sacked by saying, "Peter will still be the manager
against Derby.
"So
we're not talking about a game for Peter, we're talking about
a number of games. I refuse to be drawn on whether or not
there's a vote of confidence."
Goalscorer
Ade Akinbiy admitted that this win was more for Peter Taylor's
sack than anything else by saying, "First and foremost
that win was for Peter Taylor as we all wanted to win for
him but personally it was nice to get off the mark.
"I
had a few chances to score more in the match and perhaps I
should have put another away to give us that breathing space.
"But
I was pleased with the service I got as I don't usually get
that many chances in a match. I was very happy with the way
Muzzy Izzet and Robbie Savage played to give me those opportunities,
especially Muzzy who ran his socks off up front with me.
"Now
I can hopefully build on this and carry on my form of the
pre-season.
"It
was very important that we ground out a win tonight and fortunately
we did that. We knew Blackpool would be a good footballing
side - I've played against them before and always noticed
that - and they had nothing to lose, so to come away with
a victory is pleasing.
"We
may have put ourselves under a bit of pressure towards the
end of the game but we hung on and it's our names in the hat
for the Third Round draw."
