Peter
Taylor chose his words very carefully today after the 5-0
defeat at the hands of Bolton. Speaking to City's official
site after the match he said that only Sinclair and Izzet
could take any credit for today's match and also admitted
that it was a very hard debut for new boy Dennis Wise.
Taylor
also tried to explain just why he put Matt Elliott up front.
Taylor
said, "Since July 9 everybody has worked very hard, so
to lose the first game 5-0 when we were expecting a win is
a major disappointment and I am shocked.
"I'm
shocked and disappointed because after we conceded the first
goal we seemed to collapse and I've said to the players that
was last season, this is a new season and we shouldn't lack
belief as quickly as we did today.
"It
was a very quiet dressing room after the game, I've told the
players that really only Frank Sinclair and Muzzy Izzet can
take credit from the today's match.
"It's
happened to a lot of players before where they have been on
ther receiving end of a pasting in the first-half and returned
to a dressing room with the game as good as gone."
"All
I could do was ask them to feel better about themselves and
go and try to get something out of the second half.
"But
people still didn't show enough to get the ball or look as
though they were hungry to try and get the result."
"Dennis
obviously endured a very difficult debut as you can appreciate
because of the way we collapsed after the first goal.
"It
may have been a different situation if Matt's header had gone
in but one of the amazing things about this game is that Dennis
and the other players have all played better in pre-season
than they did today.
"Wise
and Savage didn't look as effective as they have in pre-season
but they weren't the only ones.
"I
think we may have over passed the ball without getting it
forward to our strikers.
"We
ended up losing the ball and our players didn't have the confidence
to go and get it back.
"I
thought Bolton played 4-5-1 very effectively and that Ricketts
caused our defence far too many problems.
"I
don't want to spend too much time admiring Bolton's finishing
I'd much prefer to concentrate on what has happened to us.
"I
made radical changes at half-time because I thought being
4-0 up at that stage Bolton may have chosen to sit back on
their lead a little bit.
"So
I put big Matt up front to go for it and chase the game that
way but it wasn't to be."
