Reports
in Sunday's News of the World have been confirmed by City
boss Peter Taylor.
The
NOTW reported that Matt Elliott had turned down a new improved
contract from City, saying it was "unacceptable"
and "derisory".
Peter
Taylor said,
"I'm
still confident we can agree terms. We've had a hiccup but
I have no doubts he will be here on Saturday.
"He
would like a bit more security and I can understand that.
"I've
had a chat with him this morning and I'll be speaking to his
agent (Jonathan Barnett) again.
"I've
already told the board how important Matt is to the team and
we would like the situation sorted out.
"Matt
is very settled in the area and so is his family. But on the
other hand I've got to be fair to everyone."
"I
am confident he will stay. Matt has given good service and
should be rewarded," Taylor also told the Daily Express. "I
do understand his point of view."
City
Chairman John Elsom will probably not be too impressed that
Matty and / or his agent have seen fit to play this game out
via the media, unsettling the team and the fans so close to
the new season.
Is
Elliott being greedy and blackmailing the club? Should he
just be bloody grateful he's Captain of the best club in the
world on over £30,000 a week already?! Or should we
give him and any other player what they want to stop O'Neill
nicking them? Tell us your views in the Fans
Forum.
