From the Leicester Mercury...
City
mascot beaten up
Leicester
City mascot Filbert Fox was punched and kicked to the ground
during a national tournament. The attack happened during the
annual Vaisakhi games at Victoria Park in Leicester.
Filbert Fox was on official duty supporting the Lord Mayor’s
Spirit of Sport appeal and the Football Against Racism campaign.
Eyewitnesses say Filbert was verbally abused throughout the
tournament on Sunday by a number of youths who appeared to
have been drinking. As he turned to leave one of the youths
ran at him and knocked him to the ground before others joined
in to kick and punch him.
One
of the attackers is believed to have been wearing a Wolverhampton
Wanderers shirt.
Eyewitness
James Norris said:
“Filbert
was walking away when someone ran up behind him.
“He
punched him in the back and the head and made him fall over.
The punches looked really savage.”
Should
Pulling the head of a football mascot be a criminal offence?!
Will someone take a revenge attack on Wolfie, the Wolves mascot,
who is a known nutter?! Tell
