It's
silly season again and we are linked with everyone and their
dog as managers run out of time to make summer signings.
Today
sees us linked with...
John
Hartson (Cov)- TeamTalk report that Coventry chairman
Bryan Richardson has confirmed that he has turned down a £1million
bid by Leicester for star striker John Hartson. Richardson
confirmed that Leicester were willing to continue that deal.
"We
did receive a £1million offer from Leicester, who were also
prepared to take over our commitments to his former club Wimbledon,"
he told Sky Sports.
Richardson
has told Taylor to stuff his measly offer apparently.
Julian
Joachim (Villa)- Teamtalk also report that Aston Villa's
Julian Joachim has admitted he would consider a return to
Filbert Street, although a swap deal with Coventry looks most
likely. The striker has been in dispute with Villa over a
new contract and is on the verge of quitting Villa Park. Joachim
spent four years at Filbert Street between 1992 and 1996 before
joining Villa for £1.5m, and the striker admits a return to
the club he joined as a trainee would interest him. He said:
"It
seems there is no place for me. Should Leicester come in for
me then I would consider it."
David
Ginola (Villa)- Leicester are being linked with Aston
Villa's David Ginola, and reports claim they have already
made tentative enquiries about the player. Ginola, who has
failed to hold down a regular first-team place at Villa Park
since his move from Tottenham, could be moved on by manager
John Gregory if he gets the right offer. Leicester would reportedly
want to land the player on a free transfer so that they could
match his £35,000-a-week wages - and Villa would have to waive
a £3million transfer fee. Foxes boss Peter Taylor is also
said to be happy at the prospect of Ginola remaining in his
home in London and commuting to the club every day - something
for which he has been criticised for at Villa. The former
part-time England coach is said to be set to follow up his
interest in the player in the next fortnight.
Roy
Carroll (Wigan) - again. See umpteen previous news stories
on our attempt to sign the rated young goalie. Again newspaper
reports quote Wigan boss Paul Jewell as saying that the club
would not stand in the way of Roy Carroll's prospective £3million
move to Leicester.
Dave
Beasant (F*£!+&) - The final TeamTalk rumour
is that Dave Beasant could be set for a move to Leicester
City after failing to secure a new deal with Nottingham Forest.
Beasant has revealed he had a verbal agreement with David
Platt, but the deal did not materialise and now the 42-year-old
could be on his way to the Premiership with either Leicester
or Charlton. Beasant said:
"It's
true that a Premier Division side has expressed an interest
in signing me. It's not something I want to talk about until
it is firmed up.
"Although
it's nice to know there is a chance of joining a Premier Division
club, I still feel sad that I couldn't carry on at Forest."
Foxes
boss Peter Taylor has admitted he has three new signings in
the pipeline, but it remains to be seen if Beasant is one
of them with Wigan's Roy Carroll his number one goalkeeping
target.
