Peter Taylor today announced that he had quit the England
set up.
Ananova
reported that the Leicester City manager stood down from his
England role today after having talks with Foxes chairman
John Elsom.
Former
England Under-21 manager Taylor was appointed caretaker after
the sudden departure of Kevin Keegan and was in charge for
the friendly international with Italy in November.
Ananova
said that Taylor has become an integral part of Eriksson's
backroom team and was linked with a return to his under-21
role, but now he has ended his involvement to concentrate
fully on his job at Filbert Street.
Taylor,
in a statement, said:
"I
can categorically state that my future lies with Leicester
City.
"I
have been flattered to be linked with a full-time position
in the Football Association but I have a contract with Leicester
City which I tend to honour.
"I
have had no approach from the Football Association about an
under-21 position and even if there was one I would turn it
down. "I have enjoyed my first season at Leicester City immensely.
It has been a great experience and I want to build on that.
"These
are exciting times with the club due to move into a new stadium
next year and I intend to be part of that.
"It
has been a great pleasure to work with Sven-Goran Eriksson,
the England party and the Football Association over the past
few months.
"Managing
England against Italy was unquestionably one of the proudest
moments of my footballing life.
"I
have always said that my England involvement did not affect
my duties with Leicester City and I am still firmly of that
opinion. However, there are those who choose to think otherwise.
(Is this a comment about the Chairman John Elsom or simply
the media?)
"I
have discussed the situation at length with John Elsom and
we have agreed that I should stand down from future involvement
with England."
Are
you disappointed that Taylor is staying? Or disappointed he's
not working with Sven who he may learn from? Let us know in
