City chairman John Elsom issued a statement last night concerning
recent press speculation that City boss Peter Taylor could
be asked to retake his post as England under 21 boss.
Unfortunately
Elsoms statement has done little to kill the speculation,
if not heightening reports that Taylor is due to choose between
club or country after he stopped well short of denying the
rumours or issuing a hands off warning.
Elsoms
statement read, "Leicester City as yet has received no
approach from the FA about the continuation of Peter's coaching
role with England.
"We've
already made it clear that were we to countenance any future
involvement, we could not enable Peter to be available for
the friendly against Holland in August."
Taylors
involvement with England came to an end after last weeks World
Cup qualifier against Greece and the FA are due to have talk
s with both Taylor and Elsom with a view to securing his services
as an assistant for Sven-Goran Eriksson.
That
though has been put on hold for the moment though with Elsom
currently in America and the current revelation that they
would prefer him to be a more full time part of the England
set up.
The
FA tried to distanced itself from the report yesterday and
refused to comment on its authenticity but it is understood
the source was one of their senior figures.
If
Taylor was to leave reports are already suggesting that George
Graham (old rumour) and Harry Redknapp (new rumour) could
be approached to lead City in one of the most important seasons
yet.
With
the new stadium being built intime for the 2002/2003 season
it is vitally important that City have Premiership football
at the end of next season even though at the minute it looks
like City could again be facing the usual manager worries
during the summer break.
