Lots
more Leicester bashing in the papers today and deservedly
so too!
First
up is the Independent who say, "Leicester's European
ambitions now look to have slipped beyond realisation"
and they even had some words for City's defence, "Given
Coventry's fragile form, one could appreciate the dismay now
reflected in manager Strachan's expression. But it was Leicester
who seemed uneasy, their normally reliable defence disjointed."
They
continued with such words as, "Leicester were fortunate
not to be finished before half-time as two wonderful chances
fell to Hartson. The first was a real let-off for Leicester
when the big Welshman allowed John Eustace's shot to run past
him when the slightest touch would have turned it into a goal.
Then Hartson missed the target from Marcus Hall's low cross,
with the goal again at his mercy."
The
Telegraph blame City's recent FA Cup loss to Wycombe for the
current lack of form by saying, "Leicester, by contrast,
are in freefall after five successive defeats, which began
with that home defeat by Wycombe in the quarter-final of the
FA Cup.
"They
were perhaps thinking of what might have been had they, not
Wycombe, been taking on Liverpool in today's semi-final, when
they should have been concentrating on the victory that would
have rekindled their hopes of a European place.
"It
says much about the Premiership's lack of quality in depth
that Leicester, who briefly led the Premiership last October,
will still see themselves in with a shout after a run that
has also seen them lose nine successive away games."
Strong
stuff! But not as strong as The Sunday Mirror who said, "In
making mincemeat of Leicester's fearsome defence, Hartson
inflicted a damaging blow to the European aspirations of the
home side, who have not now won in five starts."
Ouch.
The Sunday People had this quite reminder for anyone who went
to the game, "If the Foxes thought that would knock the
stuffing out of the relegation-haunted Sky Blues, they were
sadly mistaken."
The
Sunday Times have Taylor quoted as saying "The Wycombe
result hurt us more than I thought (referring to his team's
sensational FA Cup defeat). The lads do look a little bit
low and lacking in confidence, and at the moment, the ball,
when they get it, is a hot potato. We've all got to pick ourselves
up. We've always got to be honest with each other."
"I
don't think we've been that tight (at the back) recently,
I can't really say exactly what's the reason for that. I know
the reason today: people have let runners go and people haven't
marked their men at set pieces."
