Even after slumping to their eighth consecutive away win
and only winning three league games in the year 2001, Peter
Taylor still insists that City have every chance of qualifying
for Europe.
City
are now lying in 9th place in the Premier League with 45
points, 3 points behind 6th place Sunderland and 5 points
behind 3rd placed Leeds.
So
can Peter Taylor deliver the goods and give City fans what
they really, really want?
Taylor
thinks so and told lcfc.com, "We're still very capable
of making a challenge to qualify for Europe.
"We
have eight games left - four at home and four away. We need
to pick up the majority of points at home and nick a few
away from home.
"It's
fair to say we have not played away well recently but we
have a chance to put that right at Aston Villa on Wednesday
night.
"I'm
told we have a good record against Villa but they won at
Manchester City at the weekend and it will be a very difficult
game for us.
"It's
still very tight in the top half of the table and we must
not forget that we have won our last two home games in the
Premiership against Sunderland and Liverpool.
"Ultimately,
though, we all know that we have to start picking up some
away points. Everyone was bitterly disappointed after Sunday's
game.
"Embarrassed
was one of the words used in the dressing room afterwards.
We know we have to play better collectively."
Taylor
knows that he has a massive job ahead of him to turn around
City's season and finish top six. Although the coveted Champions
League place may be well out of reach a Euro spot doesn't
seem to far away.
