After Charlton's 2-0 win over City earlier this afternoon
Addicks boss Alan Curbishley found it easy to heap praise
on his Strikers and admitted that he has had them practicing
volleying in training.
Curbishly
told Sky, "Keith Peacock has been taking the strikers
for specialist sessions on volleying from tight angles,
and it seems to be working.
"Everything
was right about the way Shaun hit that ball. It was one
of those which either goes 10 yards over the bar or straight
in, and that was in as soon as he hit it.
"He
scored at an important time because I felt he was drifting
out of it a bit. I said before the game that Leicester make
it difficult for you and get men behind the ball, and it
was a question of breaking them down and score. I was pleased
to get our first goal because it opened the game up."
Meanwhile
City manager Peter Taylor found it hard to explain why City's
away form is so bad this season with them not winning away
for 8 games now.
"I
don't prepare the team any differently for matches, but
they must show more character and determination away from
home," Taylor told Sky.
"In
the first half it was a very poor start to the game by certain
players. Quite a few things were said at half-time, and
we improved - but they killed the game with a wonder goal.
We have had some bad performances - especially in front
of the live TV cameras we haven't done ourselves justice.
"We
know that it is only us who can get ourselves out of this
poor run. We are still very capable of finishing in the
top six but we have to get our act together pretty soon.
We have to win all our home games and pick up points away."
He
went onto tell City's Official Site, "I am a little
bit worried and disappointed by our away form, we've had
a very good season but the way things are going at the moment
we could blow it all - it's up to us to get our act together.
"Today
we had a very poor start and a very poor first-half performance.
"In
the second-half we improved but we were certainly not good
enough to get the three points.
"We
are not having enough of the ball, that is the problem,
and in all areas of the field there does not seem to be
enough belief that we are a good enough team on the ball
from the back to the front.
"That's
why we are always chasing the game and when you are chasing
the game you are never going to create enough chances.
"We've
still got eight games to go, four at home and four away,
and I still think we are capable of a top six finish but
we won't be if we play like that.
"Before
Wednesday's trip to Aston Villa all I can do is get them
going as best I can, but the minute it's kick-off time it's
down to the players.
"A
good footballer would help the team in the middle of the
park. A player of Muzzy's ability, he's a very clever player
with the ball, would definitely help the team at the minute.
"We
need a leader on the ball.
"But
saying that if the team performs how some of them did today
it won't make any difference.
"My
players don't seem to be playing with the same level of
confidence away from home that they show at Filbert Street.
"It
happens to a lot of other clubs, we are not the first team
it has happened to, we've got to get ourselves out of it."
City
skipper Matt Elliott admitted that the performance wasn't
good enough as he told City's official site, Our performance
today was not acceptable, I don't think we had a shot on
target throughout the match.
"We
are having a difficult run of results away from home at
the moment and need to get back to the way we were playing
earlier in the season.
"Obviously
injuries do not help but we need to battle hard for the
eight remaining games.
"I
wasn't aware of just how many on the trot we had lost away
from Filbert Street before today.
"We
go to Villa Park on Wednesday night, we have done well there
in recent times, and hopefully we can pick up some points
there."
City
fan Dave McMilla was the first person to email Forfoxsake
saying, "Taylor must go. He took a fair team and has
made them into a very good conference side!"
