In another bit of astute lower league, youth business, City
manager Peter Taylor has picked up Scarborough defender
Ashley Lyth for just £100,000.
Although
the fee for Lyth is set to rise to around £250,000
depending on appearances and the like, it still looks like
a very good piece of Business from the ex-under 21's coach.
17-year-old Lyth who learnt his trade at Scarborough's School
of Excellence is described by his Scarborough manager as
"extremely level headed" and he went onto say,
"He has done brilliantly well considering he has only
played eight reserve team games and six in the first team.
But he has got a bit of quality.
"Leicester
were not the only club who were interested in him which
shows how much he has got tongues wagging since he came
into the first team.
"But
Filbert Street is a good setup and the people there are
good.
"Ashley
can't wait to get started. He is a levelheaded lad who can
handle the situation.
"I
will be sad to see him go but I am delighted for him. It's
great for the club to have a player who has come through
our School of Excellence and is now moving up to the Premier
League.
"It
shows we must be doing something right."
Lyth
was being tracked by Spurs, Ipswich and Blackburn but he
opted for Filbert Street because of Peter Taylor's reputation.
