Even though City manager Peter Taylor should be well and
truly away from Leicester at the moment with his main thoughts
concentrated on England matters it didn't stop him from
snapping up Norwich ace Lee Marshall for £600,000
Taylor
is thought to have swooped for Marshall after working with
him at England under-21 level and left club chairman John
Elsom to unveil him at this mornings press conference.
City
boss Taylor, currently at England's training camp said,
"One of the main reasons I signed him is because he
is versatile and can play in about three positions. The
key thing is that he will add more strength to the squad."
"I
used to watch Norwich quite a bit when I was under-21 manager
and that is where I knew Lee. I picked him for the under-21s
and the Nationwide League side when we played against a
Serie B side in Italy.
"He
is very young still and wants to keep improving. He started
at Enfield and appreciates that he has been given the opportunity
to play professional football. I am looking for him to keep
that same attitude at Leicester. He is a hungry player who
wants to get better. I have my eye on him mainly for next
season.
"Lee
can play in a variety of positions in midfield or defence.
"He
is a player I have known for a while and will be an excellent
addition to our squad."
Marshall
who has made 114 appearances for the Canaries and grabbed
11 goals since joining from non-league Enfield four years
ago said, "I am delighted to have finally determined
my immediate future and I'm happy to have this opportunity
with Leicester.
"In recent weeks there has been a lot of speculation
about various clubs wanting to sign me but I have tried
to look beyond that and continue to play well for Norwich.
"Most of my success has come in a central midfield
role but I have played at full back, on the right wing and
even up front at times.
"It wasn't a difficult decision to join Leicester because
I wanted to play Premiership football and to be honest,
anything between now and the end of the season will be a
bonus. However, I will be setting my stall out in pre-season
to push my claims for a first-team place."
Speaking
on Norwich
official website Marshall's former boss Nigel Worthington
said It is a terrific move for Lee to a Premiership
Club of Leicester Citys standing. He has given good
service to Norwich City and we wish him every success for
his future career.
Lee
was going to be out of contract this summer and it was always
going to be important for us and Lee that if the right offer
came along prior to deadline that a move should be considered.
We could have left it to until the summer but we could not
predict how a tribunal would work and therefore we took
the decision to do the business now. It represents good
business for us and a great move for Lee.
