Stan
Collymore has decided to retire from football at the age
of 30 after only a few weeks at Spanish club Oviedo.
After
claiming he was hounded out of the UK by the media, Stan
tried to restart his career at Spanish club Oviedo.
Bizarrely,
Stan has been commuting from Birmingham to Spain to train!
Oviedo were not impressed with his start and told him to
go on a diet. So he quit.
His
agent has announced his retirement from pro football today
and said it is so Stan can spend more time with his family.
Stan's girlfriend is currently pregnant.
Stan
could well have a future in the media as he is very articulate
and a natural at commentating, which he did quite a bit
of when he had his broken leg at Leicester.
Many
of Stan's former managers have spoken out on how he never
fulfilled his true potential, but what a nice bloke he was,
including Peter Taylor who said,
""To
be fair, Stan had the potential to be one of the best centre-forwards
in England.
"He
was capable of being the best - but you've got to want to
be the best. You've got to want to train and improve every
day. Stan still had a decent career but it could have been
so much better and he could have achieved a lot more.
"He
should have won a lot of England caps, a lot more, but this
game is so hard and if you are not 100% for it then it is
very hard.
"You've
got to want to play and if Stan is not enjoying it, and
the desire has gone, then perhaps he is right to retire.
"But
I will say that he was a decent fellow to be with and it's
a shame his career has ended like this." (c) Ananova
