Leicester central defender Aleksander Tunchev has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing a cruciate ligament in Wednesday’s FA cup defeat by Crystal Palace.
This will be a big blow to Leicester, as Tunchev has been a rock in the centre of the defence.
This leaves Leicester with only three fit central defenders in the first team squad, with Patrick Kisnorbo and Bruno N’Gotty also having long term injuries.
Jack Hobbs and Michael Morrison have shown this season that they are good enough, but if one of them becomes unavailable it would leave Nigel Pearson with serious problems at the heart of the defence. The only specialist cover is Harry Worley, who was unimpressive during his loan spell at Luton this season, and is expected to go out on loan again.
I expect we’ll see the club sign another central defender before the January transfer window closes.
