Sousa set to be named Leicester manager

Paulo Sousa is set to become the new manager of Leicester City.

Swansea City confirmed this morning that Sousa had left the club “by mutual consent”, and it’s expected he’ll be officially unveiled as the new Leicester manager early this week.

The former Portuguese international spent a year at Swansea, and was criticised by Swans fans for his defensive style of play. Before becoming Swansea manager he was head coach at QPR, but was sacked after a few months.

Sousa is a personal friend of Milan Mandaric and was Mandaric’s guest at the home play-off semi-final against Cardiff. There have been suggestions that Mandaric has wanted Sousa at Leicester for some time, which is why he allowed Nigel Pearson to leave. Some people even believe that Pearson was forced out so Sousa could be brought in.
It has also been suggested that potential new investors in the club wanted a higher profile manager, and Sousa fitted the bill.
Whether there’s any truth to these stories we may never know. But what we do know is that Sousa will be replacing the most popular Leicester manager since Martin O’Neill, so he has a tough act to follow. Good luck to him.
