Mattock will not be missed

Left back Joe Mattock has left Leicester to join West Brom, but he will not be missed by many Leicester fans who would rather see players at the club who want to play here.
Mattock has always said how much playing for Leicester means to him, so fans were surprised to hear that Mattock requested a transfer a few days before the start of the season, particularly when the club that wanted to sign him is a similar sized club to Leicester, in the same division.
It seems a strange move to make for a player with ambition, and has made many people wonder whether his motivation was for financial rather than football reasons.

Fortunately we already have a good left back in Bruno Berner (one of Leicester’s top players in the win against Swansea on Saturday), so as good as Mattock thinks he is, he won’t be missed too much on the pitch, and maybe the transfer fee can be put to good use to strengthen the team in other areas.

Exactly how much Leicester have received for Mattock is not public knowledge, the fee has not been disclosed. The Sun, on Saturday, said it was £2 million. Today the same newspaper is saying it’s £1 million. I imagine the true figure is somewhere between the two, maybe with add-ons to be paid if West Brom get promoted etc, and possible a sell on percentage.

Another player leaving the club is midfielder Aman Verma, who has joined Crewe on loan for three months.

I hope Mattock does the business for us for his sake as well as for the Baggies. It would be sad if his talents were wasted. It is a sideways move though as you say as Nigel Pearson is as exciting a manager as Robert di Matteo and both clubs are so similar. I just LOVE your Fan Site title. It reminds me of the joke about when Prince Charles is invited to The Mayor’s Ball to be held at The Hawthorns, wonders what to wear and the Queen says, “You’re going to West Bromwich, wear the fox hat”.

Leicester similar club to West Brom?!?! Are you for real?!
I can assure you it wouldn’t be for money as we have a tough pay structure.
Mattock said it himself why he came…. Potential & ambition

I can assure you Mattock did not move to the Baggies for the money – we’re renowned for being a bit tight in the wage department (the club is owned by an accountant!), which is why we go between the Championship and the Premier League like a yo-yo – 3 promotions, 3 relegations in the last 8 years However, I do admit it is a strange move, particularly as the lad is a Leicester supporter. But there’s no loyalty at all in football nowadays; we know that all too well at the Albion. Anyway, good luck for the coming season.

I came across this statement in your post and was rather confused by it. With no disrespect to Leicester Football Club, West Bromwich Albion, with their three promotions to the Premier League in the past few seasons and reaching the Semi Final of the FA Cup last year, proves that they are one of the strongest teams in the division. Mattock has ambition and with West Bromwich Albion being a club that is constantly moving forward he may be able to go on to play Premiership football next season with West Brom being one of the favourites to go up – again with no disrespect to Leicester I don’t think that will be the case with them. I don’t think you can compare Leicester and West Bromwich Albion and come to the conclusion that they are the same sized club.
